Bonjour Brussels

07:51

My mum grew up in Brussels and I'd never been until last week. Whilst staying with mum at her flat in Den Haag, Holland my boyfriend and I decided to take a train to Belgium to indulge in some french chatter, chocs and beer. Oh the healthy life I lead.
Brussels is a muddle of a city with a wicked street art scene and a real mixture of insanely indulgent architecture similar to Venice's with a pinch of Berlin chucked in for good measure.

The Palais du Justice is an absolute must see. Still in use today, this ridiculously huge building is set in the uptown district of Saint Giles and is possibly one of the most daunting pieces of architecture I have ever come across. 3000 homes were demolished to make way for it, taking a total of 20 years to complete. What I also quite like about it is that it's based on a hill on the north side of the city, overlooking Brussels to be a deliberate reminder to residents that the law rules. Spooky right.

After seeing the sites which also included the Manneken Pis (don't bother) we enjoyed a beer or two in one of the many gorgeous Grand Place's eateries. C'est magnifique!
